CONTINUING EDUCATION – Our Continuing Education Initiative provides informational presentations, seminars and summits designed to keep clinicians and other medical professionals up-to-date on various public and community health topics. These may include but are not limited to policy briefs and/or updates; statistical data on current epidemics; and diagnosis, treatment, and symptom management of various disease processes.
PROVIDER CAPACITY WORKGROUP – The Provider Capacity Workgroup includes clinicians from Barton Health, Marshall Medical Center, El Dorado Community Health Center, El Dorado Healthy and Human Services Agency and Shingle Springs Wellness Center. The workgroup meets monthly and provides clinical expertise and perspective to identify gaps in healthcare and support development of a system of care for vulnerable populations.
MEDICATION ASSISTED TREATMENT (MAT)
What is MAT?
Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) is the use of medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a “whole-patient” approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. (SAMHSA)
Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)
Buprenorphine, methadone, and naltrexone are used to treat opioid use disorders (OUD) to short-acting opioids such as heroin, morphine, and codeine, as well as semi-synthetic opioids like oxycodone and hydrocodone. These medications are safe to use for months, years, or even a lifetime. As with any medication, consult your doctor before discontinuing use. (SAMHSA)
Medications for Alcohol Use Disrder (OUD)
Acamprosate, disulfiram, and naltrexone are the most common drugs used to treat alcohol use disorder (AUD). They do not provide a cure for the disorder but are most effective in people who participate in a MAT program. (SAMHSA)

Aegis Treatment Centers provides treatment for substance use disorder through its 34+ Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) and Med Unit locations throughout California. Aegis's model of delivering care combines medication-assisted treatment with many things including but not limited to Caseload Management, Counseling, Support Groups, Social Services, and Education.
