Project Room Key

“Project Room Key” is a collaborative effort to secure hotel and motel rooms for vulnerable people experiencing homelessness and to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The El Dorado Sheriff’s Office Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) launched the project in early 2020 just as the shelter-in-place order was unfolding throughout the state. Due to the program’s success, it has now evolved into a community partnership which is run by the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless, the Health and Human Services Agency, Marshall Medical Center, and the Upper Room.
The referral process is run through a coordinated inter-agency agreement. It is important to note that several counties throughout the State also run similar programs.
HOT continues to provide support to the homeless population through various outreach activities. These include liaising to necessary services such as healthcare, veteran’s services, rehabilitation, and transportation, among others.
